Can ecological factors affect ALS disease phenotype and progression?

BRAINTEASER project aims to understand if different ecological factors can affect disease phenotype and progression of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and multiple sclerosis (MS). Few studies investigated the spatial distribution of ALS or tried to understand how disease features can be modified by environmental factors.

The following three articles can be considered as a preparatory work carried out on one of the BRAINTEASER project patients’ cohorts:

R. Vasta et al, Do ecological factors influence the clinical presentation of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis?

James Rooney et al, Spatial cluster analysis of population amyotrophic lateral sclerosis risk in Ireland

Povedano M et al Spatial Assessment of the Association between Long-Term Exposure to Environmental Factors and the Occurrence of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis in Catalonia, Spain: A Population-Based Nested Case-Control Study
